smart networks
Strategy - UX DESIGN - Visual Design
Porteract helps you to take control over your home network. It owns multiple patents on smart (hardware based) tech that allows for a new level of network management and brings this to straight to the consumer. Along with the hardware, web based software is sold in order to make complex information and tasks very easy.
The challenge
Porteract needed someone to completely design all the web based software in order to take full advantage of the cleaver hardware. The team had a long list of things this hardware was able to do. They were testing specific features on a technical level. The results were very promising but only to be shown in code, so no user could actually do something with the cleaver tools.
The solution
First I needed to figure out what this hardware was capable of. But more importantly; understanding the user. Who is actually going to use it? Where would they use it for and how will this make their life a bit better? And since strategy was also part of the project I had to figure out why and how much customer were willing to pay for such a service while understanding competitors and make the service fit.
An intens project followed in which I mapped out all features and matched them to the user needs I came to understand. I helped forming the business case and started designing the product blueprint, which was followed up by Interaction Designs. After validation I translated the 250+ screens into Visual Designs.
Since there was no branding or visual identity I also was also responsible for that. And that's the beauty of UX design, it's about all aspects of design. This project is a good example of how diverse the design proces can be and I really enjoyed the complexity.
